In the movie, A Few Good Men, the most famous line was delivered by Jack Nicholson: “You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth!” Many times we don’t want to handle the truth. The truth comes to us as an irritation. It’s personal and uncomfortable, invasive and intrusive. But the bottom line is that we need truth tellers. We need people who love us enough to speak truth into our lives.
The prophet Nathan served that role in the reign of King David. From the 30,000 foot view, there was minimal communication. In fact, the two only shared three recorded conversations. Nathan was not a general nuisance to David, but each interaction was valuable and symbolic of the truth we need spoken into our lives. This week I’m going to cover the gist of each of those conversations between Nathan and David, and I hope to covey three ways that a truth teller can benefit and bless your life.
